Laser Dentistry

As you have come to expect, Dr. Miller always invests in the best technology available for our patients. He is the tri-state area’s leading laser dentist. We have several diode lasers in the office for use in dental hygiene and cosmetic applications, we have the MLS (Class 4) Healing Laser for patients with TMJ/muscle pain, Bell’s Palsy, and many other pain conditions. We are also proud to be one of the only offices in West Texas with the Fotona Lightwalker laser in house. The Fotona LightWalker laser is the most advanced dental laser available today. Our high-end dental laser lacks the heat and vibration of the dental drill, and most small to medium-sized fillings can be done completely without anesthesia/numbing using this method. For aesthetic gum reshaping procedures it often eliminates the need for suturing, and healing is much faster due to the sterilizing/healing effect the laser has on the tissue.

In our office we perform the following procedures with the Lightwalker laser:

  • Shot-free fillings for cavities

  • Drill-free removal of old crowns/veneers. The laser safely causes the old ones to separate and gently fall off of the teeth

  • Periodontal plastic surgery/gum lift procedure: no scalpels or sutures needed

  • Removal of oral lesions such as fibromas or papillomas, usually with just topical anesthesia

  • Cold sore treatment

  • Aphthous Ulcer (“canker sore”) treatment

  • Smoothlase® Treatment – get rid of facial wrinkles

  • Nightlase® Treatment – tightens the tissues of the soft palate/throat, gets rid of snoring & sleep apnea

  • Liplase® Treatment – adds fullness to the lips, makes thin lips more attractive

  • Spider vein removal

  • Get rid of Bell’s Palsy fast with several laser treatments

  • Our hygienist uses the laser to kill bacteria in gingival pockets in patients with periodontal disease

AMARILLO’S ONLY LIGHTSCALPEL CO2 ORAL LASER

Dr. Miller is also the only dentist/surgeon in the Panhandle to have a LightScalpel CO2 laser in the office. The primary use of this laser is for lip & tongue tie/restriction release procedures. Dr. Miller is the authority in the area regarding this procedure, and the LightScalpel laser is by far the best laser to be used for this particular procedure. Dr. Miller does this procedure in the office for adults, infants (up to age 1), and most children age 5 and above. The procedure is virtually painless and due to this laser’s characteristics, there is no bleeding and unlike other lasers, minimal to no post-op scar tissue once the site heals.

The LightScalpel CO2 laser produces a fine, concentrated beam of light. The highly focused CO2 laser beam vaporizes the tongue or lip tie, cleanly and precisely, while sealing blood vessels and capillaries at the same time. Years of experience in medicine and oral surgery went into the design of the LightScalpel laser, which was made to provide superior care for patients for this specific procedure. If your dentist or surgeon is not using the LightScalpel CO2 laser for lip/tongue releases, there is a higher chance of scarring of the area and increased post-op pain associated with the procedure. The LightScalpel solves these common issues.

WHAT IS LIGHTSCALPEL LASER SURGERY FOR TONGUE AND LIP TIES AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

Traditional surgery using a scalpel or scissors can bruise or crush tissue.  When we use the LightScalpel CO2 laser for oral surgical procedures, only a fine beam of laser light interacts with the tissue. There is no mechanical trauma to the tissue and the coagulation zone is very narrow (approximately the width of a hair).

Unlike other lasers also used for surgeries, the CO2 laser has the unique ability to vaporize or ‘erase’ tissue. The CO2 laser can be used to make incisions, as well as to remove unhealthy tissue. Our laser is so precise that it can selectively remove only a few cells at a time if needed. At the same time, it is powerful enough to de-bulk large areas of restricted tissue if necessary.
