Do you have gum disease? Then it is important to get treatment as soon as possible. Once gum disease reaches advanced stages, permanent damage is done to your teeth, gums, jawbone, and even your health.

At Advanced Dentistry of Amarillo, Dr. Trey H. Miller and Dr. Clinton L. Esler can treat gum disease at any stage. Our practice believes in nonsurgical gum therapy, which is less invasive for the patient and involves significantly less recovery time as opposed to traditional methods.

Advanced Dentistry of Amarillo offers the following treatment options for gum disease:

  • Laser therapy:Our precise dental laser technology allows us to remove infected gum tissue and kill the harmful bacteria while preserving more of your healthy gum tissue as compared to traditional gum surgery. Laser gum surgery also takes less time, and involves less discomfort and bleeding for the patient than traditional gum surgery.
  • Perio therapy:This refers to a scaling and root planing procedure. Only a professional treatment like repetitive therapy will clear the pockets that develops under the gum line in the advanced stage of gum disease known as periodontitis. We are concerned about controlling the bio-film present in a patients mouth.  So the repetitive treatments are done according to each patients individual needs.  The bonus is in our office the entire mouth is treated each session.
  • Perio Protect: A treatment that involves using a mouth guard that is customized to fit your mouth as snugly as possible, which is used to apply medication directly to the gum tissue and treat areas of the gums that cannot be reached by your toothbrush, floss, or even your mouthwash. This is a treatment that can be applied at home, making it convenient for gum disease patients on a busy schedule.
  • Arestin: An oral antibiotic that is applied, in powder form, directly to the gums. Once applied, Arestin continues to work on the gums for as long as three weeks. We typically prescribe Arestin as part of a comprehensive program of periodontal treatment that includes repetitive therapy but also can prescribe it as a standalone treatment for the disease. Arestin is available as an in-office treatment for gum disease.
