Are you living with a lost tooth? Advanced Dentistry of Amarillo can provide a permanent tooth replacement by installing a dental implant. Our implant dentists Dr. Trey H. Miller and Dr. Clinton L. Esler can replace your missing teeth with this revolutionary tooth replacement option.
Why choose a dental implant?
Bone deterioration is an inevitable long-term consequence for many individuals who lose a tooth. This attrition of the supporting bone structure occurs because the tooth root no longer provides stimulation to the jawbone. Even if a missing tooth is replaced with another treatment option such as a denture or bridge, the jawbone does not receive that stimulation.
A dental implant replaces the tooth root itself with the implant, a screw made of titanium that is surgically inserted into the jawbone. Other parts of an implant include a crown, which replaces the exterior of the missing tooth; and an abutment, which connects the implant to the base of the crown.
Other benefits of dental implants include the following:
- Easy maintenance – brush and floss as usual
- Permanent – will not slip out of place, does not need to be removed for cleaning
- Resistant to decay
- Stabilizes bite
- Aids in nutrition – you can eat the foods you want
Any patient who has gum disease should not receive a dental implant. If you have a missing tooth and also suffer from gum disease, then we need to treat the infection first before considering an implant. The will conduct a thorough evaluation of your oral health before beginning an implant procedure to determine if you are a candidate.
What to expect from a dental implant procedure
Installing an implant entails multiple visits to our office. At the initial visit, we will surgically place the implant into the jawbone. Once the implant has fused into your jawbone and you have healed from that part of the procedure (usually takes 6 months), we will complete the process and cover the implant with the crown, which has been custom-made to look like your other existing teeth.
