Implants are a great option for many people and for a variety of reasons.  A missing tooth, a bridge that is difficult to clean under, baby teeth that never came out, a partial or denture that moves all over the place and makes eating difficult, are a few of the reasons people consider implants.

When an implant is used to replace a tooth the end result can be outstanding.  No one would even know by looking that person had an implant placed.  Plus, an implant acts just like an individual tooth.  A person can floss around an implant and brush normally once the process is completed.

Implants can give a denture retention that can’t be achieved with a denture that is glued in.  An implant retained denture can give a person back the biting force they were used to with their natural teeth. Implants can keep the bone from resorbing.  Bone resorption is one of the biggest reasons a denture that fit in the beginning doesn’t fit properly after a while.  Once the teeth were extracted the bone begins the rapid process of going away.  An implant supported denture is a great option for many people.

The patient pictured below just can’t quit smiling!

Her case was a complicated one.  When she came to see us she still had 6 baby teeth and was wearing a partial plate. She is so pleased that she chose implants to be incorporated into her overall treatment plan. She considered just going with bridges instead of the implants. She told us she is so glad she went with the implants.  She says the implants are so much easier to care for than that partial she struggled with before.  Plus, she loves her new smile.

If you would like to see if implants would be a good option for you give our Amarillo dentist, Dr. Clinton Esler a call at 806-576-3076.

There is an endless list of reasons people would like to have whiter teeth.  Maybe it is a storybook wedding, a graduation, an important interview, to ease a lifetime of embarrassment or just because a person has decided they want a more refreshed, younger looking smile.  Whatever the reason a whiter smile is always a great option.  We have never heard anyone say they wished they had their yellowed teeth back.

Although everyone is different, there are some very good results that can be accomplished with whitening.  We use the Kor whitening system in our office.  Kor is widely recognized as the world’s most effective whitening system—with no need for lights or lasers.

Here is a picture of a before and after picture of a patient that chose in-office bleaching.

Kor works by restoring your teeth’s youthful ability to absorb oxygen.  The oxygen from the whitening gel is absorbed deeply in the tooth dissolving and removing stain molecules.  We also offer at home maintenance kits that a patient can use to help keep their whiter, fresher smile looking its best.

If you would like to see a whiter smile in your future give our Amarillo Dentist, Clinton Esler DDS, FAGD, LVIF, FIAPA  a call today at 806-576-3076.

There is a connection between healthy teeth and gums and a healthy body.  Have you ever stopped to think about the fact that your mouth is a portal to the rest of your body?  Research has shown there is a connection between gum disease and serious health concerns such as:

  • Diabetes

  • Low birth weight babies

  • Cardiovascular disease

  • Respiratory disease

  • Chronic inflammatory conditions

  • And many others

Gum disease starts when bacterial communities, or biofilm, form in the periodontal pockets between the teeth. These bacteria get into places that cannot be reached with a toothbrush.  Effective home care and professional cleanings work hand in hand to keep this bone eating, disease causing bacteria out of a person’s mouth.  Bleeding in the gums is one indicator that bacteria has entered a person’s mouth.  Has anyone ever said to you “Oh it’s only a little bleeding”?  Healthy gums do not bleed!  A person would only want to do something about these bacteria if overall health is important to them.

Optimal heath is important to many people these days.  Good home care can help combat bone eating oral bacteria.  Perio Protect® trays are non-invasive, comfortable and effective in helping heal and protect gum tissue.

You use the Tray with prescribed medication at home for just minutes each day. The customized Perio Tray® has a special sealing system that keeps medication below the gum line to fight infections.  This makes home care very easy to do. Plus, many people experience fresher breath and whiter teeth with continued use of the trays.

If you would like to be the healthiest you can be or have questions about gum disease, please feel free to call our office, Clinton Esler DDS at 806-576-3076.

Our brain works to bring our teeth together 1000’s of time a day. Since there is a relationship between the teeth, jaw joints, head and neck muscles, and head posture, a problem in any one of these areas can affect the other. Pain or dysfunction of the head and neck is a very common condition.   Some of these conditions can be treated very simply and others may require more advanced treatment.   One of the indicators something may not be working properly is popping or clicking in the jaw.

The diagram below shows the normal anatomy of the jaw joint.  There is a cartilage like material or disc that keeps the jaw bone from rubbing on the skull bone.

The picture below shows what happens when the disc is forced out of place due to misalignment of the teeth or trauma. The popping a person hears is the disc being pushed forward out of place.

Slide_09

Many times when the patient opens the disc pops back in place and when they close it pops back off.  This is a damaged joint.  This can lead to further degeneration and damage. Patients can experience many issues with a popping jaw from no pain , inablilty to open or close properly,  difficulty swallowing, headaches and also severe pain.

This is where a trained professional comes in.  Dr Esler is an expert in neuromuscular dentistry.  He uses advanced techniques to help provide relief for patients suffering from TMJ.

If you have questions regarding TMJ or Amarillo TMJ Dentist, please feel free to call our office, Clinton Esler DDS, FAGD, LVIF, FIAPA  at 806-576-3076

Cosmetic Dentistry is an art form and it should be recognized that each case is different as well as the results.  In this case, porcelain veneers were used to close spaces to create a beautiful and healthy smile.  Smile designs are challenging and can be designed so that veneers should not be thick or bulky to achieve natural results.  Paying attention to details such as surface anatomy, texture, and translucency are important.  The photos below are of a patient that is a Broadway actor.  Before his smile makeover he was only able to get villain parts.  He landed his first national Coca-cola commercial very shortly after his new smile was completed.
